This is an original pinback button issued by the
    Black Panther Party
    in support of
    Angela Davis'
    legal defense fund.
It is a rare version with
the photo of Davis wearing glasses
. Davis was a leader of the
Los Angeles chapter of the Black Panther Party.
    She was charged,
    in 1970,
with the attempted prison escape of George Jackson,
the leader of the Black Guerrilla Family, which was a subset
group of the Black Panthers. Upon her capture, President Nixon
labeled her a dangerous terrorist and demanded life long
incarceration. However, she was acquitted at trial and
    would go
on to play a major role in the
    Civil Rights
    Movement.
She is considered by many to be among the
    most
important Black feminist leaders in American history.
This button was made by Fox Buttons in 1970, in
cooperation with the Black Panther Party,
    for the
Black Panther Party Legal Defense Fund
    In Support of Angela Davis.
There is no damage or discoloration on the
face of the button. There is the expected
light rust on the metal back.
